What is a Content Management System (CMS)?
Simply put, a content management system allows a user to create, edit, and manage the content of a system (such as a website) without having technical knowledge or writing code.
One of the more popular uses of a CMS is a "WCMS" or Web Content Managemt System. A website is powered by HTML, CSS, JavasScript, and many other technologies. However, with the implement of a WCMS a user can effectively create and manage content without the website without the obstacles of the website technology.
A key term to learn is WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get). Have you ever used Microsoft Word? Then you are familiar with WYSIWYG, because in Word you highlight the word and click the B icon (Bold) and you get BOLD.
This is how Content Management Systems work. To "technically" make something "Bold" on a website, a developer would surround the word with "<strong>word</strong>" or "<b>word</b>", however with a CMS you do not need to be concerned with these technical issues. You just highlight the word can "click the bold icon".
You can also easily do other things such as:
- Bulleted List
- Headings
- Indents
- Insert images
- Insert links
- Left, Right, Center justify
- Tables
- Italics
- Underline
- Highlight words
- Forms (such as a Contact Form, Product Inquiry Form, etc.)
- Insert Flash, Video, Adobe PDF's
- Change fonts including size
As you can see, Content Management Systems are powerful tools in today's world. Our system is unique. For example, our competitors cannot allow you to create your own forms on the fly, but DigiGears CMS allows you to do just that and in just a few clicks.
As with all of our software, you get an "off the shelf" system that is easily customized to fit your specific needs.
